Aquaforest Nitraphos 250ml

NitraPhos Minus is a liquid additive that works biologically to strip nitrate, nitrite and phosphate out of marine aquarium water. Rather than binding nutrients chemically, it fires up the metabolism of several bacterial groups already in the system so they take up and process the excess.

The formula blends several forms of organic carbon with amino acids and vitamins, so the bacteria can readily absorb these compounds and convert them into biomass. That biomass then feeds corals, with the leftovers exported by the filter or skimmer. Keeping nutrients in balance this way also helps hold back green algae and cyanobacteria, while corals tend to show better condition, colour and growth.

It suits reef keepers dealing with high nitrate and phosphate readings who want a fast biological reduction. Begin at half the recommended dose and test NO3 and PO4 once or twice a week, as a sudden crash in nutrients can damage zooxanthellae and kill corals. Bear in mind that low nutrients call for generous coral supplementation, and that undersized filtration, heavy feeding or overdosing supplements are common causes of elevated readings. It can be run alongside Pro Bio S; bacterial nourishment with -NP Pro is not required while NitraPhos Minus is being dosed.
