The beauty of Seiryu Stone comes from its natural structure.

Deep grooves, fractured edges and contrasting mineral veins create shadows and highlights across the stone. When several pieces are positioned together, these details naturally lead the eye through the aquascape and create the impression of a much larger landscape.

Use a dominant stone as your main focal point, then build around it with smaller supporting pieces to create depth, height and a natural sense of scale.

The classic Iwagumi stone

Seiryu Stone is particularly well suited to Iwagumi, where a small number of carefully positioned stones create the entire landscape.

Its strong angles make it easy to create mountain peaks, sloping valleys, cliffs and elevated formations without needing excessive decoration. Pair it with a simple aquasoil, carpeting plants and negative space, and the stone becomes the architecture of the aquarium.

It also works beautifully in more complex nature aquariums, planted layouts and even alongside driftwood.

Every piece is different

Seiryu Stone is a natural product, so there is no mould, pattern or artificial uniformity. Shape, size, texture and mineral veining vary from piece to piece.

That variation is exactly what makes it valuable for aquascaping. Rather than trying to make every stone identical, you can select pieces that complement one another and create a hardscape with genuine natural variation.

An important water chemistry consideration

Unlike inert volcanic stones, Seiryu Stone can gradually increase KH, GH and pH because of its mineral content.

For most planted aquariums this can be managed without issue, but it is important to consider when keeping fish or shrimp that require very soft water. If water chemistry is critical to your livestock, monitor your parameters after introducing the stone.
